O’Connell, H. A., J. Rose, A. M. Shams, J. Arduino, AND E. W. RICE. Chlorine disinfection of Francisella tularensis. Letters in Applied Microbiology. Blackwell Publishing, Malden, MA, 1(52):84-86, (2011).

Impact/Purpose:

This work provides contact time values that are useful for drinking water risk assessment and also suggests that live vaccine strain may not be a good surrogate in disinfection studies. This paper aims to determine the range of free available chlorine required for disinfection of the live vaccine strain and wild-type strains of Francisella tularensis which causes the disease tularemia.
